Incredible views of the Galactic center of the Milky Way have been captured by The Chandra X-ray Observatory in stunning detail.

The Chandra X-ray Observatory is a space observatory that was launched by Space Shuttle Columbia in 1999. It has been capturing views of the galaxies around us, but has also paid special attention on the galactic center of the Milky Way, our own galaxy.

Now, these stunning views are available in a panorama showing the true beauty of our own galaxy as never seen before.

Chandra is one of the great space telescopes, and is in the same league, but perhaps not as well known as Hubble. However Chandra has a very different mission and design, and was named after the Nobel Prize-winning Indian-American Astrophysicist  Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.

At the center of the Milky Way resides an enormous black hole. Chandra provides a new way of looking at the energies at play there, with each given it’s own colour. Threads of energy are shown in stunning relief, creating some of the most beautiful images.
